Northwest Missouri State scored the final 24 points of the game Saturday afternoon as the Bearcats marched past Washburn 38-17.
The 'Cats (2-0) trailed 17-14 in the third quarter when momentum shifted on the Ichabods (1-1).
Justin Rankin broke a 41-yard touchdown run to give Northwest a 21-17 lead with 4:10 remaining in the third quarter.
During the Bearcats' first drive of the fourth quarter, Braden Wright hit Marqus Andrews in tight coverage down the left sideline. Andrews shook the defender and rumbled 43 yards to the two-yard line. Rankin took it the rest of the way for his second touchdown of the day.
Wright put the nail in the coffin with just under five minutes to play in the game. The quarterback capped a nine-play, 56 yard drive with a rushing touchdown from five yards out.
Jackson Barnes led the Northwest defense with nine tackles in the win, and Mike Ehlke and Zach Howard finished with a sack apiece.
The Bearcats are on the road next Saturday against Missouri Southern. Kickoff is set for 6pm. Pregame on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9 will begin at 5pm.
